Discovery expedition Flensing Knife

Knife, flensing knife with steel blade belonging to Thomas Hodgson (marine biologist onboard the Discovery) used for skinning and dissecting penguins and other animals on board the ship. The smell was so repulsive that crew members would complain that the animals were beginning to "talk" or smell. Engraved on the blade the maker's mark S. Maw & Son with Discovery 1901-4 engraved on to the handle.
